Speedway races twice during fair week

DARLINGTON — The Lafayette County Speedway held races on back-to-back nights Friday and Saturday, July 17-18 during the county’s fair festival.

On Friday night, Jason Robbins (21) of Benton won the Economy Late Models class over Jamie Pfeiffer (56) of Freeport and John Squires (15) of Shannon, Illinois. In the IMCA Hobby Stock, David Crimmins (16C) of Dubuque took home the checkered flag ahead of Dakota Simonsen (60) of Fairfax, Iowa, and Matt Bennett (24) of Shullsburg (24).

Jeff Larson (B1) of Freeport won the IMCA Modified class, just ahead of Mike Fryer (5M) of Freeport and Derek Thompson (34T) of Monroe. 

There were two features of the IMCA Northern SportMod class. In the A Feature, Zach Maurer (87) of Shannon came out on top, with Ben Peters (84) of Winnebago and Cory Kuntzelman (47) of German Valley, Illinois, taking second and third, respectively. Mike Coogan (55) of Winnebago, Illinois, won the B Feature, with Nick Leibried (23) of Hazel Green second and Jadin Ruf (57R) of Darlington third.

Terry Edge (41) of Fayette won the Sports Compact race, with Troy Pokoj (49) of Apple River, Illinois finishing second and Cameron Wahl (2EZ) of Monfort taking third. 

The next night, in the IMCA Hobby Stock class, Simonson took first ahead of Crimmins and Bennett. Jason Reichers (67) of Belmont won the IMCA SportMod, with Rod Cameron (57) of Stockton second and Kyle Neels (77H) of Freeport third.

In the Four Cylinders race, Duke Ruf (41J) of Darlington was first, Jonathon Walton (5) of Benton second and Wahl third. Kenny Kostenbader (33K) of Freeport won the IMCA Modifieds race, finishing directly ahead of Dustin Wilwert (7D) of Dubuque and Thompson. Pfeiffer won the Limited Late Model class, with Jason Robbins (21) of Benton and Mike Kline (83) of Browntown coming in second and third.

Jason Roth of Hazel Green leads the IMCA SportsMods division in the season points standings at 147, just three ahead of Kuntzelman. Crimmins is on top of the Hobby Stocks with 153 points, with Bennett just three points back.

In the Four Cylinder bracket, Pokoj is three points ahead of Eric Beau of Benton. Larson is four points ahead of Thompson in the IMCA Modifieds class, and Pieffer holds a 9-point lead in the Limited Late Models division.

Cars get back on the track July 25 for a Test and Tune night, with weekly racing returning Friday, July 31.
