MONROE - Becca Armstrong can't wait to play against Orangeville Friday at Helfaer Field outside of Miller Park in Milwaukee.
"We are really excited we get to go to Milwaukee and play Orangeville," Armstrong said. "We haven't got many games in. Any time we get to play good competition, it will help us in the tournament run. I'm just excited to go up there and pitch on the mound. It will be a great experience."
Monroe softball coach Dale Buvid said Orangeville approached Monroe about playing a game at Helfaer Field last summer. The Cheesemakers usually have a Florida trip every other year in the spring to kick off the season.
"It was our off year for our Florida trip," Buvid said. "It was our decision to do something else with this group. It will be unique. We are looking forward to it. We wish the Brewers were playing at home so we could go to a game."
Helfaer has 502 bleacher seats and 220 additional concourse seats. The softball team is planning on eating at TGI Fridays inside Miller Park and touring the stadium. They will spend the night in a hotel and play a doubleheader Saturday at Indian Trail in Kenosha.
"We love to spend time together," Armstrong said. "Getting to spend a whole weekend together will be a blast."
Buvid looks forward to playing Orangeville, which Monroe plays in the summer league.
"They have quality pitchers and are well coached," Buvid said, of the Broncos. "They are always competitive. We will have our hands full."
