MONTICELLO — The Monticello Area Historical Society (MAHS) will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Monticello Area Historical Museum on Main Street.
After a brief business meeting, Jack Stenborten will lead a discussion in the History of Monticello Auto Dealerships. Jack’s grandfather, Leon Voegeli, was a veteran automobile dealer and started his first agency in Monticello in 1914. In the spring of 1918, Leon was called into military service, and the business was sold to H.L. Karlen and Sons of Monticello. After serving with the U.S. Army during WWI with the Motor Transportation Division in France, Leon returned to Monticello and started selling cars again and the rest is history.
This is a free presentation and the public is welcome.
