Vikings trending up; Road win pushes Knights over .500
Comets, Ponies and Panthers struggle offensively

BELMONT — Pecatonica is learning to play with a lead, as its 20-point halftime margin propelled the Vikings to a 58-36 win over Belmont on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Four Vikings scored in double figures, led by Coy Ruegsegger with 15 points. He was 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. Tyler McKeon trailed behind him, also shooting well at the charity stripe by going 6-for-8. Elijah Knutson drained three 3-pointers in his 11-point total. The final player in double digits was Jameson Johnson with 10 points.


NEW GLARUS 69, BARNEVELD 51

BARNEVELD — The Knights couldn’t miss from beyond the arc in their road win on Tuesday, Jan. 3. New Glarus drained nine 3-pointers for 27 of their 69 points.

Jake Roth (six points), Ethan Friedrich (10 points) and Brett Warrell (six points) made two 3-pointers each. AC Strok — who led the team with 15 points — Breckyn Thompson (three points) and Jack Leonard (three points) also made a shot from beyond the arc. Max Parman also made a significant contribution to the offense with 14 points, ten of which came in the second half.


EVANSVILLE 71, BRODHEAD 48

EVANSVILLE — Cullen Walker provided the Cardinals with half of their offense, but Brodhead still came up short in a Rock Valley Conference game on Tuesday, Jan. 3. The Blue Devils improve to .500 in conference, while Brodhead drops to 2-4.

Walker led the Cardinals with 24 points and the only three baskets made from beyond the arc. Jaxon Dooley also scored in double figures with 11 points, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. Brody Riese tallied six points as the third-highest scorer. As a team, Brodhead shot below 50% at the charity stripe, going 9-for-20.


BELLEVILLE 70, MONTICELLO 18

MONTICELLO — The Wildcats used a 37-point run in the first half to defeat Monticello in a nonconference game on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Ian Schwartzlow tallied five points and two rebounds to lead the offense. Jackson Eyler and Ryer Indergand recorded four points each. On the boards, the Ponies were led by Mason McCutchen and Eyler with three rebounds each.


BENTON 75, JUDA 25

JUDA — Rex Blaine was a thorn in the Panther’s side on Tuesday, Jan. 3, as the 6’6” Clarke-commit scored 29 points in the Zephyer’s victory.

Conversely, the entire Juda offense only put up 25 points, led by Braydon Steinmann with seven points. He went 2-for-2 from the free-throw line and made one 3-pointer. Jayden Brown, who also sank a three, totaled six points. On the boards, Juda was led by Hunter Foster with five rebounds. 


POTOSI 56, ALBANY 8

ALBANY — The Chieftains held the Comets scoreless during the first half a nonconference matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

All of Albany’s eight points came in the second half, with half of them coming from Nate Stokstad. The other four came from Brayden Bakken and Tyler Patchen, who had two each. Stokstad and Gage Roth led the Comets on the boards, with four rebounds apiece.

Albany attempted just 16 two-point shots, five less than Potosi’s made two-pointers. From beyond the arc, the Comets were 0-for-12, while the Chieftains were 3-for-8. Albany was also blanked at the free-throw line, going 0-for-6.
