Vikings set course for conference title

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Pecatonica-Argyle wrestling team finished the conference season with a 5-1 record, sent two grapplers to sectionals and one to state.

Noah Krahenbuhl graduated in the spring after reaching the state tournament for the fourth straight year. This season, senior Kristian Orloff is looking to build on his sectional run at 145-pounds.

“I can see Kristian Orloff turning some college coaches heads this year,” second-year coach Grant Sutter said.

Overall, eight Vikings return from last season’s squad (3 Sr., 3 Jr., 2 So.), plus five freshmen are looking to fill some of the open gaps.

“We have a lot of new guys that are giving this sport a try this season,” Sutter said.

With inexperience and youth, that means there could be quick learning — as well as some trying times ahead.

“I expect some growing pains throughout the season. I’m excited to see what the difference will look like for some of these guys from the beginning to the end of the season,” Sutter said.

The season expects to compete at full strength from a roster standpoint, as well as a full schedule. If 2020-21’s constate state of flux taught the students anything, Sutter said, it would be to seize their moment, because there is no guarantee of another moment after that.

“I expect us to compete at our very best with every opportunity we get. We all learned the hard lesson last year that these opportunities aren’t always guaranteed, and that we should make the most of them,” Sutter said.
