MONROE — A rural Belleville man and convicted sex offender was convicted again by a Green County jury Friday of various felony sex crimes that could land him in prison for more than 60 years.
Derrick Prescott Nipple, 36, was arrested May 20, 2025, in Darlington, in what authorities characterized as a joint effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
Arguments in the case started on April 8, before Circuit Judge Jane Bucher. And on Friday, April 10, a 12-person jury was seated and deliberated for just over an hour before reaching a verdict in the case, records indicate.
The Green County Sheriff’s Office began investigating reports on May 4 related to incidents of Child Sexual Assault that had reportedly occurred in the Village of Albany; and in rural Green County in the Town of Exeter.
“Due to the nature of the alleged crimes, the Green County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division was assigned to conduct further investigation,” said Undersheriff and Chief Deputy John M. Schuetz, in a statement. “The Green County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with the Village of Albany Police Department and Rock County Human Services to conduct a joint investigation which included utilizing the Child Advocacy Center in Rock County to assist in forensic interviews.”
Added Schuetz: “As the investigation continued, Green County Law Enforcement developed probable cause to support the arrest.”
Nipple was arrested for First Degree Sexual Assault of a Child (Victim under 13), Exposing Genitals (to a child), and Exposing a Child to Harmful Materials. He was taken into custody with assistance from the Darlington Police Department and the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office. Nipple was arrested in the 800 block of Galena Street in the City of Darlington.
After he was convicted of Second-Degree Sexual Assault of a Child in Green County Circuit Court in August 2010, Nipple was sentenced at that time to serve two years in state prison. Nipple also was previously convicted of a Sex Offender Registry Violation where he plead guilty in September 2013.
Now the defendant, meanwhile, is awaiting his sentencing in custody in lieu of a $50,000 bond. A pre-sentencing report has been ordered by Bucher, with sentencing scheduled for July 20. Records indicate Nipple also faces another felony charge — apparently earned while in jail — for possession of an illegal article. His next court date on that charge is May 18, also before Bucher. He has pleaded not guilty in that case.
