Raiders topple Columbus

BELLEVILLE — The Raiders, needing two wins to guarantee a share of the Capitol boys soccer title this spring, blanked Columbus 5-0 April 27. 

After a scoreless first half, Sugar River caught fire in the second. Carter Siegenthaler assisted Gavin Boyum’s goal in the 52nd minute, breaking the scoreless tie. Boyum then returned the favor to Siegenthaler in the 66th minute. In the 80th minute, Logan Niesen put an assist from Ryan Downing into the back of the net to make it 3-0.

Just five minutes later, Breckin Faber scored to make it 4-0, with Siegenthaler assisting. Just two minutes later, Faber scored unassisted, the fifth goal in less than 25 minutes for the Raiders.

Sugar River took 25 shots, with 13 making it on goal. Columbus has just five shots, with four on goal, all saved by Cam Kleiboer.

In other area action, Monona Grove blanked Monroe 13-0 April 27.
