DARLINGTON — The Lafayette County Health Department is teaming up with local partners for an upcoming Summer Vaccine Clinic to be held on Wednesday, August 12 from 11:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Lafayette County Health Department, 729 Clay Street, Darlington. The clinic will allow individuals who are insured, underinsured, or not insured, an opportunity to update their vaccinations.
“We are hoping that families from across Lafayette County will stop by during the clinic,” says Holly Ray, BSN, RN, Public Health Nurse, at the Lafayette County Health Department. “We are putting this event together to provide access to available resources which can help create a healthier and stronger community.”
O’Connell Pharmacy from Sun Prairie will be providing vaccines to those with insurance during the Summer Vaccine Clinic. When it comes to disease prevention, immunizations are key. Some that will be offered include: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella); DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus & Pertussis); Hepatitis-B; Varicella (Chicken Pox); Poliovirus; Shingles, HPV, and RSV; just to name a few.
“It’s a great time for school-aged children, as well as parents, families, and individuals, to get updated on any vaccines that they may still need,” she says. “We will able to help look up records for those who are unsure of what vaccines they’ve had and what they need. The vaccines during the clinic are offered free-of-charge to the community. There is a QR code available for people who might prefer, or need to set up a specific time; otherwise walk-ins are welcome.”
In addition to the vaccine clinic, there will be ice cream available for purchase from Vesperman Farms. Their ice cream is Wisconsin made and provides a refreshing treat, especially during the summer months.
There will be several booths from local organizations that will provide information and assistance to families who are in need of a variety of services.
“Lafayette County EMS will be doing CPR demonstrations, which we hope will be helpful for parents, grandparents, and anyone who might feel uncertain and uneasy about how to perform CPR,” shares Ray. “The demonstration will provide an opportunity for people to ask questions and become more familiar with what to do in an emergency.”
Lafayette County Human Services will have individuals trained on proper car seat safety. For those that are uncertain, the trained staff will be able to check parent’s and grandparent’s vehicles for proper instillation of car seats. Anyone with questions on how to properly install a car seat is encouraged to stop by during the clinic.
Second Harvest Food Bank will have produce and goods available for individuals and families who are in need of it. They will further provide information on Second Harvest locations throughout Lafayette County.
ADRC of Lafayette County will have a booth available to provide the community with information related to aging or living with a disability. Their goal is connect the community with the resources that are available and the variety of services that they offer.
There will be a booth which will promote the many resources that Lafayette County Human Resources offer for families throughout the area. One of their upcoming events is a Back to School Bash on August 15. More information will be provided at their booth.
“We encourage anyone who would like to be sure they are caught up on their vaccines to stop by on August 12,” says Holly Ray. “We look forward to seeing everyone at the Summer Vaccine Clinic.”
