Ponies peaking headed into postseason push

MONTICELLO — After losing 57-50 to Pecatonica earlier this season, the Ponies took revenge on the Vikings with a 59-49 win on Friday, Jan. 27.

Monticello has won its last four games, including crucial conference wins over Pecatonica and Black Hawk. In their previous meetings, both the Warriors and Vikings defeated the Ponies.

“We are finally working together as a team and communicating,” junior Jaden Zuber said. “I think it’s all starting to come together. We have some freshmen, so they are new to all of us. Now, we are starting to play together and work together well.”

Despite a 34-29 lead in favor of Monticello at halftime, the two teams exchanged the lead multiple times in the second half. With four minutes left in the game, the Ponies pulled away for the victory.

Dalana Trumpy and Zuber led the team with 18 points each. Trumpy went 6-for-11 from the free-throw line with two 3-pointers,
