ARGYLE — In 2021, the Argyle-Pecatonica golf team finished second in the SWAL and fourth as a team in the WIAA Division 3 regional at Spring Green. Both individual state qualifiers graduated: Noah Krahenbuhl and David Tisch.

Back this season is Alex Emberson, a junior that finished second-team all-conference a year ago and was a stroke off the pace to qualify for sectionals as an individual. Also expected to play a key role in the varsity lineup is freshman Alex Ruetten, who played a full schedule of Wisconsin PGA Junior events in 2021.

“I’m expecting Alex Ruetten to be a solid contributor on varsity. Junior Hunter Lelle has lots of varsity experience. We’ll be counting on him shooting good scores this season,” said Argyle-Pec coach Chuck Chandler. “We’ll have two open varsity spots as practices begin. We’ll see who earns these positions. Lack of experience early in the season could be a challenge.”

Chandler set his expectations to finish at least third in conference again this year, and preferably second. Taking over the top spot will be hard with, as Mineral Point returns the bulk of its WIAA Division 3 third-place roster.

“Mineral Point will win the SWAL Conference and should contend for a state title in Division 3. They return 4 of 5 players from a team that finished in the Top 5 at the WIAA state tournament last season,” Chandler said.
