New Glarus closes in on Capitol Conference championship

WATERLOO — Down to their last at-bats, the Knights saw their chance of a conference title slipping away and battled back. New Glarus scored five of its six runs in the top of the seventh and shut down the Pirates in the bottom for a 6-4 comeback victory on Tuesday, May 16.

Ashlin Mihlbauer’s two-RBI double proved to be the game winner, while Patrick Alt’s RBI single gave the Knights an extra cushion. Jake Roth and Alt recorded multiple hit games, while Leyton and Ashlin Mihlbauer drove in a collective five runs. Alt got the start and went five solid innings. He gave up one earned run on three hits. Leyton Mihlbauer pitched two innings of relief to get the win. 

New Glarus’s victory, paired with Marshall’s 5-4 win over Cambridge, puts the Knights in a two-way tie with Cambridge atop the conference. Both teams are 6-2 with two games left, including a season-ending showdown on Friday, May 19.

On Monday, May 15, New Glarus fell to Mineral Point 3-0 in a nonconference contest. Matt Roth recorded two of the Knights’ three hits. Jake Roth suffered the loss, giving up one earned run on two hits.


Beavers 10-run rule Cheesemakers

MONROE — Despite a solo home run from Tucker Markham in the first, Monroe fell to Reedsburg in five innings, 13-3, on Tuesday, May 16. Markham finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, home run, two RBIs and one run scored. Ethan Rosenstiel took the loss, giving up four earned runs on six hits. He struck out four and walked two.


Cardinals come from behind 

BRODHEAD — Brodhead-Juda scored all four runs in the bottom of the fifth and held Clinton scoreless the next two innings to pull out a 4-3 comeback win on Tuesday, May 16. In his first game of the season, Cullen Walker went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Brody Riese picked up the win, striking out six batters, and Evan Senobe secured the save.


Redbirds gets mixed results

DARLINGTON — After falling to Riverdale 4-1 on Monday, May 15, Darlington doubled up Boscobel 10-5 on Tuesday, May 16. In the two-day span, Breylin Goebel went 4-for-6 with two runs, a double and RBI. Reagan Jackson picked up the win on day two, giving up two earned runs on four hits. He struck out six.
