STOUGHTON — Monroe tennis was unable to send any individuals to sectionals, as the team’s season came to an end in subsectionals on Monday, Oct. 2. Despite the early ending, Monroe head coach Matt Bordner was pleased with the season.

“We finished the season 10-12 overall and took a big step as a program,” he said. “I’m really going to miss this team and the seniors, but I’m also very optimistic about our future.”

Lindsay Leuzinger won her first match before running into Lexie Hankel of Janesville Craig, who finished third at state a year ago. The same happened to Kate Kundert, who drew Kate Thorne of Oregon. Despite being a sophomore, Bordner believes Thorne will be a state contender in the future.

Both seniors ended their career with 20-plus wins and made second-team all-conference and honorable mention-all conference, respectively. The team also says goodbye to Emma Tran, Brooke Hanson, Delaney Fortney and Sydney Wunschel.

Underclassmen Adeline Eckerman, Ryann Dahlman, Rylee Svendsen and Layla Pallesen return to next year’s lineup, all with bright futures ahead, Bordner said.
