Monroe, area teams open season at UWP

PLATTEVILLE — The Monroe Cheesemakers and several boys and girls teams competed at the Pioneer High School Invitational in track and field at UW-Platteville on Tuesday, March 18. 

In the boys 55 meter dash, Monroe’s Jy’Shon Broitzman, a junior, finished in first place with a time of 6.85. In the boys 200 meter dash, senior Ben Gatdula of Monroe took 4th place in 25.28 seconds. The boys 800 meter run saw sophomore Kamrin Gerber-Reamer of the Monroe Cheesemakers take 2nd place in 2:09.48 and 3rd place belonged to sophomore Lukas Gerber of Monroe in 2:11.21. Monroe dominated in the boys 3200 meter run with senior Padriac Houston winning the race in 11:06.92. Right behind was senior Benjamin Erdley of the Cheesemakers with a time of 11:23.32. Taking fourth place was senior Austin Fuller of Monroe in 13:10.54. Monroe was also dominant in the boys 4x200 meter medley. The team of Ben Gatdula, Broderick Cornfield, Jy’Shon Broitzman, and Noah Spotts took home 1st place in 1:37.69. Another Cheesemaker relay team, the boys 4x400, captured 1st place as Lukas Gerber, Kamrin Gerber-Reamer, Bradley Holst, and Will Keehn paced the track in 3:47.54. In the boys 4x800 meter relay, the Cheesemakers took 2nd place in the finals with sophomore Elijah Cook, freshman Weston Huntsman, junior Brady Keehn, and freshman Lucas Veeder finishing in 9:48.63. 

Senior Seth Schmidt of Monroe was first in the boys long jump with a jump of 19 feet, 11 inches. Schmidt also took first place in the triple jump at 40 feet, 10 inches. Junior Waylon Yoder led Monroe in the shot put with a 2nd place finish.

In the girls 400 meter dash, the Cheesemakers took the top two spots as junior Aniyah Jackson-Bey took first in 1:08.08 and Maryella Green was second in 1:10.13. Taking 2nd place in the girls 55 meter hurdles was junior Loretta Tisch of Argyle-Pecatonica in 9.77 seconds. Monroe girls took 1st place in the 4x400 meter relay as the team of junior Miley Hanson, junior Mya Wild, freshman Alivia Mosher, and Aniyah Jackson-Bey raced to a time of 4:32.27. The Cheesemakers also captured the girls 4x800 meter relay with sophomore Maryella Green, sophomore Lyla Ritschard, sophomore Nevaeh Huenefeld, and junior Mya Wild completing the relay in 11:05.74. 

The girls high jump was won by Monroe’s Mya Wild with a high jump of 10 feet. Monroe’s Miley Hanson was 5th in the long jump, Argyle-Pecatonica’s Aleah Harris, Brooke Wellnitz, and Loretta Tisch finished fifth, sixth, and seventh in the girls triple jump. Freshman Calla Stateler of Argyle-Pecatonica was sixth in the shot put with a toss of 27 feet, two inches.
