Monticello-Albany Loses Back-to-Back

The Monticello-Albany Space Stallions fell to 0-4 on the season with losses to Benton-Shullsburg, 11-6 on April 7, and to Highland, 4-2 on April 8 in Six Rivers Conference action. In Monday’s game, Benton-Shullsburg grabbed an early lead by scoring five runs in the second inning. After a scoreless fourth inning, Benton-Shullsburg added six runs over the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to roll to the win. Junior first baseman Tyler Patchen drove in three runs on a pair of hits for the Space Stallions. Sophomore third baseman Ty Durtschi walked three times and scored three runs for Monticello-Albany. 

In the Tuesday game, the Highland Cardinals scored a run in the first inning and a run in the second inning off Monticello-Albany starting pitcher Cody Pryce. Despite getting just two hits, the Space Stallions tied the game at 2-2 with single runs in the third and fourth innings. Highland countered with a pair of runs in the sixth inning to overtake the Space Stallions. Pryce took the loss, allowing two earned runs on three hits. Pryce drove in a run for Monticello-Albany. Senior centerfielder Leon Parker drove in the other run for the Space Stallions. Monticello-Albany was set to face Potosi-Cassville in another Six Rivers Conference game on the road April 11.


Belleville Gets First Win Of the Year With Victory Over Cambridge

Senior Niles Monroe did it all for Belleville in the Wildcats 8-3 win over Cambridge in Capitol South Conference action on April 8 at Cambridge. At the plate, Monroe went 2x3, with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored. Monroe also pitched a four-hitter, going the distance allowing three runs with five strikeouts and no walks. Shortstop Austin McKinley got a hit, drove in a run, and scored a run for Belleville. Senior centerfielder Logan Derke got two base hits, scored a run, and drove in a run for the Wildcats. Belleville trailed 3-1 before scoring seven unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The win was the first of the year for Belleville (1-2). Belleville was scheduled to play Cambridge again on April 10 before traveling to Whitewater on April 11.


Potosi-Cassville Gets 13-0 Win Over Argyle-Black Hawk

Potosi-Cassville pitchers Aidan Uppena and Dawson Weber combined on a three-hit shutout to lead the Chieftains to a 13-0 win in five innings over the Argyle-Black Hawk Orioles in Six Rivers Conference action on April 8 at Argyle. The Orioles were limited to base hits by third baseman Jackson Berget, second baseman Weston Ganshert, and pitcher Trent Bidlingmair. The Chieftains led 6-0 after four innings, then ended the game early with a seven-run fifth inning. Argyle-Black Hawk dropped to 0-2 with the loss. The Orioles were set to host the Belmont Braves on April 11.


Brodhead-Juda Takes 11-4 Win Over Whitewater

The Brodhead-Juda Cardinals went on the road on April 8 and came home with an 11-4 win over the Whitewater Whippets in Rock Valley Conference, Rock Division action. Shortstop Braylon Strehlow ripped a double, and drove in two runs, while scoring two runs to lead Brodhead-Juda. Third baseman Sam Searls and right fielder Clayton Elliott also had doubles for the Cardinals. Catcher Gabe Bockhop got a hit, drove in a run, and scored three times as the Cardinals evened their record to 2-2. Starting pitcher Brody Riese scattered four hits over five innings before turning it over to Brooks Malkow who allowed three runs over two innings. Brodhead-Juda was slated to host Delavan-Darien on April 10 and East Troy on April 11.


Pecatonica Vikings Roll Past Shullsburg-Benton

The Pecatonica Vikings played their Six Rivers Conference opener on April 8 at home against Shullsburg-Benton, winning 11-2. Starting pitcher Drew Hendrickson pitched six innings to get the win, giving up two runs on three hits. Hendrickson also went 3x4 at the plate with an RBI. Catcher Marty Anderson was 2x4 with three RBIs and scored a run. Center fielder Griffin Noll drove in a couple of runs as the Vikings improved to 1-1 with the win. The Vikings were scheduled to host Highland on April 10 and River Ridge on April 11 in Six Rivers Conference play.
