MONROE — The Monroe Cheesemaker girls soccer team suffered its second straight shutout loss on Thursday, April 13. The Lodi Devils scored six of their seven goals in the first half.

Monroe goalkeeper Kaelyn Welch held Lodi scoreless for the first 10 minutes, before Gracie Cleary scored just inside the penalty box. Four minutes later, Gianna Burke’s shot escaped a charging Welch to find the back of the net.

It took the Devils another seven minutes to score, this time from Anna Belfanz. Her kick hit the left post and ricocheted in. Lodi went up 4-0 with a free kick from Cleary. She placed the ball in front of the net, assisting Lea Traeder for the goal.

With a goal from 30 yards out by Abby Hass, Monroe changed goalies. Elisabeth Tavares Quintana came in for the remaining four minutes of the half. She allowed one goal on a kick that just went over her finger tips. Welch returned to play the entire second half.

The Cheesemakers’ greatest scoring opportunity came in the 38th minute. Atziry Ocampo chased down a deep pass by Lodi and evaded her defender. She then passed to Karlee Boll, whose kick sailed over the net.

The Devils scored their seventh goal on a kick from Traeder, taken just outside the penalty box.

Welch suffered the loss. She allowed six goals and saved 10 shots.
