Monroe sweeps triangular at final meet at T.R. Holyoke

MONROE — The Monroe Cheesemakers hosted the Whitewater Whippets and the Jefferson Eagles at the Monroe Triangular in boys and girls track on Tuesday, April 7. It was the final track and field meet at the current high school.

In the boys competition, Monroe beat Whitewater 111-44 and Jefferson 117-38. The Monroe girls track team defeated Whitewater 124-31 and Jefferson 125-30.

First place finishers for the Monroe girls were freshman Micki Andrews in the 200-meter dash in 28.77 seconds. In the 400-meter dash, senior Mya Wild won with a time of 1:06.75. Senior Miley Hanson was first in the 800-meter run in 2:37.88. Sophomore Alivia Mosher finished in first place in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:44.07. The 3,200-meter run was won by sophomore Victoria Wolf in 12:48.93. Monroe won both of the hurdles as senior Brooke Bunker took first in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.20 seconds and senior Aniyah Jackson-Bey was first in the 300 meters with a time of 52.60 seconds.

Monroe competed with three 4x100 meter relay teams and team “A” with sophomore Althea Sweeney, sophomore Eden Greely, sophomore Lauren Zentner, and freshman Maya Eddy won with a time of 56.16 seconds. The Monroe “B” team won the 4x400 meter relay with a team of Alivia Mosher, Brooke Bunker, senior Anna Zentner, and Mya Wild completing the relay in 4:40.41.

Monroe’s Miley Hanson was first in the high jump where she cleared 4-feet, 8-inches. Hanson also won the triple jump she was measured at 34-9.5. Anna Zentner of Monroe was the first-place finisher in the pole vault as she soared over the bar at 7-6. The long jump went to Althea Sweeney with a jump of 15 feet. Monroe’s best performance in the shot put was freshman Mallory Palleson placing second with a shot put of 28-2.5. In the discus throw, senior Kira Schmidt finished third with a heave of 72-9.

Results from the boys competition saw senior Jy’Shon Broitzman just miss out on first place in the 100-meter dash. Broitzman ran the race in 11.40 seconds and was edged by Jaden Golisch of Jefferson by .03 of a second.

In the 200-meter dash, sophomore Riley Blum took first place in 23.73 seconds. The 400-meter dash went to junior Kamrin Gerber-Reamer with a time of 52.62 seconds. Sophomore Landon Smith took the top spot in the 800-meter run in 2:06.75. Freshman Ace Rossing was first in the 1,600-meter run in 5:02.19 and first in the 3,200-meter run in 10:46.57. Senior Will Keehn of Monroe was second in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.32 seconds and first in the 300-meter hurdles in 43.16 seconds.

Jefferson won the 4x100 meter relay as Monroe took third place with the team of senior Bradley Holst, junior Caleb Mazahreh, junior Ryan Roelli, and junior Landon Cassa completing the relay in 48.13 seconds. Whitewater took first place in the 4x200 meter relay as Monroe placed third with sophomore Gibson Daily, sophomore Oliver Helland, junior Alex Rowe, and sophomore Kane Showers timed in 1:46.22. The 4x400 meter relay belonged to the Cheesemakers with Jy’Shon Broitzman, junior Eli Phillips, senior Noah Spotts, and Kamrin Gerber-Reamer securing a time of 3:32.05.

Senior Frank Wolf of Monroe won the high jump with a jump of 5-10. Senior Kingston McNett placed second in the pole vault at 9-6. Junior Eli Phillips took first place in the long jump by going 20-1 and, in the triple jump, Frank Wolf was second after being measured at 41-10. The shot put and discus throw were won by senior Waylon Yoder of Monroe. Yoder’s shot put went 52 feet and his discus throw traveled 169-6.
