MONONA — The Cheesemakers picked up their biggest win of the season with a 72-60 win at previously unbeaten Monona Grove Dec. 11.

Kade King had 30 points and 15 rebounds for Monroe, which outscored the Silver Eagles 39-25 in the second half. The Cheesemakers closed the game on a 15-3 run.

Nick Schumacher and Carson Leuzinger each had 10 for Monroe (3-4, 2-1 Badger South), while Cade Meyer finished with nine and JT Seagreaves had six.

Monona Grove (5-1, 2-1), which entered the game as the ninth-ranked team in Division 2 according to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association, was led by Caden Nelson’s 20.

Darlington 51, Dodgeville 36

DARLINGTON — Carter Lancaster had 19 points and Stryker Fitzsimons added 17 as the Redbirds improved to 5-0 on the young season.

Trae Schilling had nine points for Darlington, which entered the top-10 rankings in Division 4 in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association poll, coming in at No. 6.

Elsewhere Dec. 11, Argyle picked up its first win of the season with a 60-45 effort over Highland in a Six Rivers crossover.


Dec. 10

New Glarus 58, Platteville 50

PLATTEVILLE — Jaden Kreklow had 22 points and Mason Martinson finished with 10 as the top-ranked Knights (6-0) overcame a 1-point halftime deficit to knock off the Hillmen (3-2) in a nonconference game.

Platteville led 29-28 at the half, but New Glarus held the host team to just 21 points in the final 18 minutes. Isaiah Oswald had 14 points for Platteville while Trey Bartles had 13 points and eight rebounds and Connor Riley finished with eight points and 11 boards. Trevor Gassman had nine points for the Knights. 

Kreklow scored 16 of his points in the big second half for New Glarus. The Knights finished with just two 3-pointers but went 12-for-18 from the free throw line, including a 9-for-14 effort in the second half. Platteville had just seven attempts from the charity stripe in the game, hitting five. The Hillmen were 1-for-3 from the line in the second half.


Potosi 76, Black Hawk 44

POTOSI — Connor Meyer hit six 3s and finished with 26 points and seven rebounds, but Black Hawk was unable to pick up a conference crossover win.

Just four Warriors scored in the game, with Colby Argall, Kyle Lovelace and Avery Baumgartner each scoring six points. Platteville had three players in double figures, led by Brady Curtis, who had 23.

Black Hawk committed 26 turnovers to Potosi’s 12. The Chieftains had 17 steals and outrebounded the Warriors 34-27. Potosi, ranked fourth in the WBCA Division 5 poll, also shot 32 of 64 from the field (50 percent), and 8 of 11 from the free throw line. The Chieftains were just 4 of 20 from beyond the arc, but 28-for-44 (63.6 percent) from 2-point land.

The Warriors were just 14 of 44 from the field in the game (31.8 percent), including a dismal 7-for-26 (26.9 percent) from 2. Black Hawk was 9 of 20 from the charity stripe, and outside of Meyer’s 6-for-8 from deep, the Warriors hit just 1 of 10 shots from beyond the arc.
