ARGYLE — The Orioles knocked off River Ridge 6-0 in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal May 21 thanks to a 12-strikeout performance by freshman pitcher Grace Ganshert.

The young hurler allowed just three hits in the game and didn’t walk a batter in the 101-pitch performance.

At the plate, Argyle had just six hits — two apiece from Kirsten Ostby, Lexi Leigh and Natalie Romdenne. The Orioles also walked nine times as a team, and struck out just six times.

Argyle scored its first run in the bottom of the fourth and tallied another in the fifth. A four-run sixth inning gave the Orioles some breathing room.

Next up for 3-seed Argyle (18-6) is seventh-seeded Southwestern. The Wildcats knocked off second-seeded Iowa-Grant, which spent nearly the entire year ranked in the top 10 in Division 5.

Black Hawk 6, Potosi 2

POTOSI — The Warriors got a big day from leadoff hitter Bailey Butler and advanced to the regional final in Division 5.

Butler was 3 for 3 with a double, a walk and four runs for Black Hawk, which was set to take on top-ranked and unbeaten Belmont May 23.

Hannah Butler got the win on the mound in the regional semifinal, scattering four hits, a walk and a hit by pitch while striking out five. She was also 2 for 3 at the plate with a run and a hit by pitch.

The Warriors led the May 21 regional final 2-1 after the first inning and added a run in each of the second, third, fifth and seventh innings. Potosi’s only other run came in the seventh inning.

Poynette 10, Brodhead 0

POYNETTE — The Cardinals saw their season end May 21 against the state’s defending champion in the regional semifinal.

Poynette, top-ranked and unbeaten in Division 3, scored four runs in the top of the first against Nataley Bump. Poynette then scored two more runs in the second and plated four in the bottom of the fourth to set up the mercy rule.

Brodhead collected just two hits on the day — a Hannah Myhre double and a single by Brooke Teubert. The Cardinals didn’t walk and struck out eight times against Poynette starter Casey Fountain.

Poynette’s Ashley Hellenbrand was 3 for 3 with five RBIs and a home run, and Zoie Ramberg was 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs.

In other area action, Juda-Albany lost 4-2 to Lancaster May 21 in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal.
