Monroe boys 13th at Verona Invitational, girls team finishes 21st

VERONA — Monroe’s girls varsity team finished 21st overall at the annual Verona Invitational Sept. 7, while the boys team was 13th.

Jacie Hayes was the top Cheesemaker finisher in the girls race, coming in 51st overall with a time of 21 minutes, 17.3 seconds. Sierra McGuire was the second Cheesemaker to cross the finish line, finishing 111th (24:03.6). Bre Lambert (113th, 24:08.6), Jazmyn Mader (121st, 24:36.2) and Ellery Bazley (134th, 25:46.2) also had scoring runs for Monroe.

New Glarus-Monticello was 18th as a team in the girls race, with freshmen Annika Ziperski (80th, 22:29.6), Tenley Faber (91st, 22:47.7) and Whitney Disch (92nd, 22:47.8) leading the way. Dayna Karls (105th, 23:32.8) and Molly Molencamp (114th, 24:09.6) also scored for NGM.

In the boys race, Monroe’s Alex Henry was 46th overall (17:48.1), with Dylan Fahrney (59th, 18:06.6), Lucas Sathoff (64th, 18:17.5), Zander Slack (77th, 18:30.3), Tyler Barker (104th, 19:02.6) scoring for the Cheesemakers.

New Glarus-Monticello was 16th as a team. Adam Nelson led the way with a 47th-place finish (17:48.9), while Braylon Hoesly (74th, 18:28.4), Tom Nelson (76th, 18:29.9), Conor McCoy (83rd. 18:31.2) and Ty Ready (98th, 18:57.0) all scored points.

Darlington Invitational

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds finished third as a team in the 21-team boys race and third in the girls’ 16-team race Sept. 7.

Dodgeville-Mineral Point won the boys race, with Mount Horeb taking second, and in the girls race, Mount Horeb was first and Lancaster second.

Willie Riechers paced Darlington’s boys team, scoring 13th at 18:46.3. Rhett Reuter (19:00.1), George West (19:07.3), Cristian Guiterrez (19:29.7) and Michael Thompson (19:38.6) also scored for Darlington. 

Pecatonica-Argyle was 14th as a team. Payton Flannery (19:42.5) led the Vikings, followed by David Tisch (20:20.6, Brady Penniston (21:02.1), Troy Nickels (21:11.2) and Nathan Nickels (21:30.0).

Albany was 15th as a team, with freshman Gage Roth (19:36.7) leading the charge. Jesse Schwartz (20:11.6), Sean Morales (22:10.7), Andy Gertsch (22:23.2) and Nathaniel Ross (23:52.7) also scored.

In the girls race, Darlington was led by Judith Meister’s 5th-place finish (21:18.9). Ashlyn Norgard (22:05.1), Allyson Meyers (23:04.0), Maddie Crist (23:18.0) and Morgan Black (23:26.4) all scored for the Redbirds.

Albany placed sixth as a team, with freshman Linsey Mueller (21:52.4) scoring a top-10 finish, less than half-a-second better than fellow freshman teammate McKenna Broughton (21:52.7). Emileigh Dallman (23:37.8), Kaiya Zurfluh (23:43.7) and Kristin O’Bel (23:55.6) also scored for the Comets.

Pecatonica’s Allie Godfrey was 87th (26:36.5), teammate Sydney Webster came in 109th (30:02.2) and freshman Norah McCarthy was 113th (30:47.5).
