55-point first half propels MHS
Football

MONROE — Monroe completed its perfect conference season with a 62-0 win over Whitewater on Friday, Oct. 13. The Cheesemakers scored 55 points in the first half and gave their second- and third-string players reps in the second.

The defense put Monroe on the board first, as lineman Aaron Benzschawel scooped up a fumble and ran it back for a touchdown. The remaining eight touchdowns came from four different running backs — Ben Gatdula (4 att, 42 yds, 3 TDs), Lane Meier (5 att, 110 yds, 2 TDs), Kaden Kuester (6 att, 74 yds, 2 TDs) and Brady Wyss (2 att, 19 yds, 1 TD).

Another three backs got carries, including Jacob Flom (3 att, 49 yds), Nathan Fuchs (2 att, 17 yds) and Cameron Newcomer (2 att, 6 yds).

Wes Saunders was 8-for-9 on extra point attempts.

BLACK HAWK-WARREN 44, PECATONICA-ARGYLE 6

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Warriors and Vikings completed their regular seasons on Friday, Oct. 13, with Black Hawk-Warren coming out on top.

“I was happy with the score, but not satisfied because we can play even better,” BHW head coach Desmond Breadon said. “I was happy with how our defense created turnovers and the number of different guys that got turnovers. I think overall we got deeper as a team by getting everyone playing time.”

Quincy Adams, Riley Mosley, Owen Seffrood, Braxten Kent and Brady Stietz all created turnovers. In fact, Stietz recovered a fumble and ran it back for a touchdown 16 seconds into the second quarter. Andrew Figi also added to the defensive effort with his team-best 12 tackles.

Offensively, nine people got carries, led by Seffrood (7 att, 101 yds 2 TDs) and Lane Marty (12 att, 91 yds, 3 TDs). Eli Schliem attempted two passes, both of which were incomplete.

Pecatonica-Argyle had 120 total yards of offense, with 104 of them coming in the air. Quarterback Max Godfrey was 13-for-25 passing with one TD and four INTs. His lone touchdown pass found Tyler McKeon, who finished with three receptions for 26 yards. Godfrey’s main target, though, was Ike Waage (5 rec, 57 yds). Defensively, Nathan Burkeland led the Vikings with 20 tackles.

BHW finished its conference season 6-1 — including its SWAL crossover game against Parkview-Albany — to tie with Potosi-Cassville. However, in head-to-head Six Rivers East contests, the Chieftains beat the Warriors 41-20. Thus, PC claims the Six Rivers East Conference championship outright.

“I don’t think anyone outside of our locker room thought we would finish at 8-1 [overall],” Breadon said. “I think the players are exceeding their potential as individual players and as a team. Potosi deserves the title the way they played. They are a very good team and well coached.”

BELLEVILLE 31, PARKVIEW-ALBANY 0

ORFORDVILLE — With a conference win over the Vikings on Friday, Oct. 13, the Wildcats gave themselves an extra push toward playoff contention. Belleville got off to hot starts in both halves, scoring 12 points in the first quarter and 19 in the third quarter.

Sam Arndt and Brennan Keyes went a combined 4-for-5 passing with 41 yards, while Keyes alone had two TD passes. Casey Hagen and Owen Nemec hauled in those passes. On the ground, Ryker Swenson paced the Wildcats with nine carries for 168 yards and two TDs. Keyes, who had eight carries for 86 yards, also scored a rushing TD.

For Parkview-Albany, Aiden Crane was 3-for-12 passing for 34 yards. On the ground, Danny Finley had 24 carries for 58 yards. Defensively, Kamron Parker, Caleb Smith and Michael Williams paced the Vikings with nine tackles each.

In other local football, Brodhead-Juda fell to Lancaster 44-14. The Cardinals ended their regular season with two conference losses.
