Butler nets league's top honor

Black Hawk senior Paige Butler was named first team Six Rivers East All-Conference and Player of the Year.

Butler helped lead the Warriors (12-0 Six Rivers East) to their third straight title and second consecutive unbeaten conference season. Butler provided a powerful one-two punch with fellow first team all-conference selection Kim Wellnitz.

Pecatonica senior Brittany Kent and Albany senior Devan Brugger also garnered first team all-conference accolades.

The second team all-conference team included six area players including Pecatonica juniors Kimee Chandler and Cassie Swenson as well as Albany sophomore Sydney Bump, Black Hawk senior Gabi Lehner, Argyle junior Lindsay Flanagan and Monticello senior Sarah Silver.

FOOTBALL

Pecatonica, the Six Rivers Conference co-champions with Potosi and Benton-Scales Mound, had five first team all-conference selections.

The Vikings first team all-conference players included seniors Lee Vlasak, running back; Kyle Kent, end; Cody Slater, center; Kevin Berg, defensive end; and Milton Kurschner, defensive back.

Black Hawk seniors Shane Jackson and Mike Marty were first team all-conference picks on both offense and defense. Jackson was selected all-conference running back and linebacker for the second straight year.

Black Hawk senior Carl Ruegsegger was also tabbed a first team defensive end and a second team guard on offense. Junior teammate Cody Foster was selected as a second team running back and Michael Place was chosen as a second team defensive back.

The Vikings had four second team selections including junior Chris Hendrickson, kicker; Berg, guard; Slater and Vlasak as defensive linemen.
