MONROE - Senior Night brought out the best in the Monroe volleyball team at the start of a non-conference match against Reedsburg.
Monroe (0-7 Badger South) won the first set 25-18.
"It was Senior Night and their last time on this court," Monroe coach Danya Ward said. "They came out with some energy and were definitely ready to go. They played with a lot of heart."
The Beavers answered winning three straight sets 25-13, 25-8, 25-16 to cap the comeback win.
"Reedsburg definitely turned it on in the second game," Ward said. "I don't think we thought they were going to fight back like that. I think their middle hitter started to take over."
Monroe senior Taylor Barrett had a team-high six kills and four blocks. Seniors Kirsten Vetterli and Savannah Koester each added five kills.
Senior Katie Holmes had 14 digs and sophomore Paige Murphy had 13 assists.
"She (Holmes) had an amazing game tonight," Ward said. "She was our defense. She was all over."
Monroe now gears up for the Badger Conference tournament at Madison Edgewood on Saturday. After playing each team once and losing seven conference matches, the Cheesemakers are looking forward to the tournament.
"I'm anxious to play Stoughton, Oregon and Fort Atkinson a second time around," Ward said referencing the tight matches the Cheesemakers played against them during the regular season. "We will have to be on our A-game and do whatever we didn't do the first time against them."
