BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica baseball jumped on defending conference champion Barneveld for two runs in the first inning, but Dustin Hodgson came in to shut down the Vikings and hand them a 5-2 loss Monday, April 8.

The Vikings committed five errors.

"The story of the game was defensively," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said. "Those five errors were costly. Hodgson was tough in relief and Carson Carmody came in and closed the door."

Pecatonica junior Lucas McKeon pitched four innings and gave up five runs, but only one earned run. He struck out four and walked three. Pecatonica sophomore Drew Schliem tossed three shutout innings in relief. He struck out four and walked two.

Pecatonica senior Geoff Daley, freshman Books Chandler and McKeon each hit doubles for the Vikings.

Pecatonica (1-1, 0-1 Six Rivers East) will play at Albany today.
