ALBANY - After settling for some outside jump shots in the first half, Albany coach Derik Doescher challenged his team at the half to attack the basket and get the ball inside.

Albany did just that pulling out a 50-45 win over Monticello Friday. Albany junior Tyler Dahl scored a team-high 22 points to lead the Comets. Albany (9-12, 7-4 Six Rivers East) shot 24 of 31 from the free-throw line. In the first half, the Comets shot 1 of 12 from the 3-point line. Doescher was well aware something had to change.

"We didn't shoot the ball very well in the first half," he said. "We had to do a better job of getting to the free-throw line and getting to the gaps."

Monticello senior Ben May scored a game-high 27 points. Teammate Zach price scored eight points and made two of the Ponies' four 3-pointers.

Albany senior Cole Trapp added 10 points. With the loss, Monticello drops to 1-20, 0-11 Six Rivers East.

"I thought they played very hard and well," Doescher said. "It's scary. I wouldn't want to play them in the tournament."

Juda 65, Argyle 62

ARGYLE - Juda sophomore Matt Schmitt and senior Cory Segner combined to score 42 points to propel the Panthers to a 65-62 win over Argyle Friday.

The Panthers led the Orioles by nine points with 2 minutes, 30 seconds to go. Argyle (5-15, 2-10 Six Rivers East) rallied and with four seconds left the Orioles missed two free throws that would have tied the game.

"We had to go to a helter-skelter defense and foul them," Argyle assistant coach Bob Lawinger said.

Juda (8-13, 5-6 Six Rivers East) made 18 of 27 free throws in the fourth quarter to hang on to the victory. The Panthers finished 63.6 percent at the foul line (21 of 33). Segner drilled four 3-pointers in the first half.

"He (Segner) was hot from three," Lawinger said. "He hurt us a little bit."
