Rose E. Burgess

Rose E. Burgess, age 82 of Darlington, WI passed away Monday, April 22nd, 2019. She was born on August 23, 1936 in Monroe, Wisconsin, the daughter of Ernest and Elizabeth (Schenkel) Scheidegger. Rose graduated from Monroe High School.

Rose was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Burgess on October 29, 1955 at St. John’s Church in Monroe, WI. They were blessed with five children: Steve (Kathy) Burgess, Duluth, MN; Karen (Loren Homb) Williams, Watertown, WI; Donna (Pat) Burns, La Crosse, WI; Tim (Brenda) Burgess, Shullsburg, WI; Kory (Tim) Douglas, Darlington, WI.

Rose is also survived by 19 grandchildren: Lucas (Laura), Joshua (Katie), Kevin (Kimberly), Kendra (Mike) Niemi and Aaron Burgess; Kimberly, Kristy (Evan McCarthy), and Katryna (Ryan Mugan) Williams; Nate (Robyn), Mike (Melissa Schernecker), Leah (Alan Miller), and Shane Burns; Emily (Ben) Graham, Anna (Beau) Brice, and Will Burgess; Meghan, Gracie, Brooke, and Paige Douglas; along with 8 great grandchildren: Lexi and Levi Burgess; Caleb, Lydia and Abigail Burgess; Logan and Ellie Burns; and Lakynn Graham. She is further survived by a brother Charles (Gloria) Opie of Gratiot, and sister Mary Aeberhard of Monticello. Rose was preceded in death by Bob (October 2015), her parents, sister Ruth Burgess, and brothers-in-law Al Aeberhard Jr. and Dean Burgess.

Bob and Rose farmed on the Burgess family farm in Seymour Township. Rose is fondly remembered by so many as the school cook at Prairie View and Darlington Elementary Middle School (37+ years) and for the cinnamon toast she made for the children. Rose was a member of the Wardsville Homemakers, the Lafayette County Home and Community Education Program, and was an EMT/first responder (18 years). Rose would never turn down an opportunity to spend time with friends and family and talked so highly of sharing coffee and playing cards with friends.

Rose enjoyed traveling with Bob, especially taking annual fishing trips to Canada and two memorable Alaskan vacations. She cherished family hunting drives, camping trips and was a loyal Redbird fan --- rarely missing a sporting event where her children or grandchildren were competing.

The family is extremely appreciative of the love and support received from Pastor Angie Utter, her “family” at the Darlington Heights Apartments and the Upland Hills Hospice caregivers.
