Mary P. Zurbuchen, age 79 of Monticello, died Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the New Glarus Home. Mary was born on July 3, 1939 in Monroe, the daughter of George Hollenstein Sr. and Martha Tuescher. She graduated from Darlington High School in 1957 and married Zane Zurbuchen in 1960. In 1961 the couple moved to Monticello where Mary worked at Dorman’s Cheese, Gempeler’s Grocery, and the Aeberhard Mink Ranch. Mary and Zane owned and operated Zipper’s Tavern in Monticello for several years. She was a former Monticello Lioness, an avid Cubs fan, Packers fan, and enjoyed her bowling and golf leagues.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, Heidi, Randy, Tina, Jodie, Kirk, Jay, Julie, Cory Sue, Joe, and Pam. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Zane on December 24, 1989; and three brothers, George, Willie, and John Hollenstein.
Graveside services for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 11:30 a.m., at Highland Cemetery, Monticello, with Monsignor Larry Bakke officiating. A Celebration of life will immediately follow at Shawna’s Bar in Monticello. The VOEGELI-NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monticello, is assisting the family.
