Eleanor Mary Staab, 90, of Monroe, died Tuesday, July 17, 2018.
She was born June 22, 1928, in Litchfield, MN, the 3rd child of Roy and Mary (Pauls) Botz, and was then raised in St. Nicholas, MN, on the farm homesteaded by her grandfather. After high school, she attended St. Cloud Hospital School of Nursing on the GI bill, graduating in 1948. Eleanor later received a nursing degree at St. Louis University. While teaching 1st year nursing students at SLU she met and fell in love with her future husband. Eleanor married Dr. William Joseph Staab MD on June 20, 1953. They lived for a time in Cleveland, OH, and at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma, before settling in Monroe in 1959. Here they joined St. Victor Parish and raised their 9 children.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990, after 36 years of marriage, and by their son Father Gregory in 2018. Eleanor is survived by eight children: Edward (Alison), Charles (Jill), Catherine (Alvin) Lavoie, Theresa, Jennifer, Anne, Mary Jane, and John (Rosanne); also by grandchildren, great grandchildren and a younger sister Florence (Flo).
Her family and friends cherish the memories of her love and encouragement, her kindness and joy, her example of prayer and of devotion to her husband.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Monsignor Larry Bakke, Celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe, followed by a luncheon in the St. Victor School gymnasium. Visitation will be on Friday, July 20, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas at St. Clare of Assisi Parish.
