MONROE — The investigation continues into a fatal incident last week in which a vehicle fatally struck a pedestrian in a Colony Brands parking lot late last week.
The truck was backing up in a parking lot in the 1100 block of 7th Avenue just before 3 p.m. last Friday, Feb. 2, just prior to the accident.
“It was reported that a person was pinned under a vehicle and may not be breathing,” Monroe Police released in a statement on Monday, Feb. 5.
The name of the victim, pronounced dead at the scene, was not been released by police or the Green County Coroner’s office as of press time on Feb. 5. Police were still investigating the incident and Chief Fred Kelley was unavailable for comment at that time.
The following day, on Feb. 6, officials released the names of those involved in the accident.
"According to the investigation so far, the fatally injured person was Carmen E. Hale, 28, of Monroe," Police Chief Fred Kelley wrote in a press release. "Ms. Hale was apparently walking in an employee parking lot of a business after a work shift at 1127 7th Avenue in Monroe, and was struck by a truck which was backing up, operated by Cole D. Syvrud, 27, of Argyle. The truck and operator were part of a contracted utility crew that was doing underground work at the business."
“It was a tragic incident,” said Monroe Police Sgt. Noah Vig.
The Green County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation at the scene, the statement said, but Sheriff Jeff Skatrud referred questions about the incident to Monroe Police and the coroner’s office.
Attempts on Monday to reach a spokesperson for Colony Brands Inc. for comment on the matter were unsuccessful.
All parties are cooperating with the Monroe Police Department, and the incident remains under investigation, Kelley said.
