MONROE - The Monroe Theatre Guild is preparing for the upcoming production of the Charles Dickens' classic, "A Christmas Carol." Performances will be Dec. 5 through 7 and Dec. 11 through 14.
"A Christmas Carol" tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a despicable old miser, as he is visited by the ghost of his former business partner on Christmas Eve. He is told three spirits, Christmas Past, Present, and Future will visit him that same night. They each take Scrooge on a dream-like journey to reveal glimpses of his life and the prospect of a wretched future if he doesn't change his ways.
A cast, which includes more than 30 community members and children, is led by Richard Hilger in the role of Scrooge. This version of "A Christmas Carol" was adapted by Hilger, especially for MTG. John Baumann, Monroe, is making his directing debut, with support by veteran director Chris Weis.
Performance days and times are at 7 p.m. Dec. 5, Dec. 6, Dec. 11, Dec. 12 and Dec. 13; and at 2 p.m. Dec. 7 and Dec. 14. A free opening night reception is at 6 p.m. Dec. 5.
