MONROE - Mark your calendars: The official last day of school for the Monroe school district will be Friday, June 7.

The district's last day was in question after the number of snow days this winter threatened to push the school into the second week of June. Superintendent Cory Hirsbrunner notified district families Friday, April 5 that the district has set June 7 as the last day.

According to the school year calendar approved last year, the district originally planned to release school for the summer after a half day Wednesday, June 5. Make-up days for snow or inclement weather were scheduled for Thursday, June 6; Friday, June 7; and Monday, June 10.

There will be a full day of school June 7 at all public schools except at the high school, where students have exams scheduled for the morning of both June 6 and June 7. High school students will not need to attend those afternoons.

Also this summer, the elevator at the Monroe Public Library will be shut down due to "extensive elevator modernization," Hirsbrunner said. The elevator will not be working between June 20 and Aug. 2, as the elevator is repaired.

The district's administrative offices are located on the third floor of the library building. Hirsbrunner said the library and district office are working on plans to provide accessibility while the elevator is out of service.

Registration and enrollment will be relocated to MHS during this six-week period.
