DARLINGTON - A Shullsburg man was arrested while committing an alleged burglary at about 12:15 p.m. Friday at an unoccupied home in the 6000 block of Wisconsin 23, about five miles south of Darlington.

Jerry R. Schulz, 51, formerly of Dodgeville, was a person of interest in the investigation of several burglary cases, said Scott Pedley, Lafayette County sheriff, in a press release Monday. Pedley said Schulz was under surveillance at the time of his arrest.

Pedley said the home where Schulz was arrested had been burglarized earlier this month. He said the home owner returned earlier this month and discovered the house had been forcibly entered. Cash and other items were missing.

Pedley said Schulz forcibly entered the home Friday.

Schulz remains jailed.

Lafayette County Sheriff's Department detectives executed a search warrant at Schulz' residence Friday, but Pedley wouldn't say if anything was found at the residence.

Detectives are investigating reports of other burglaries in the area.
