Ralph J. Trickel, age 94 of Escondido, CA, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014 in California. He was born on March 5, 1919 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Ralph J. and Alice (Dunlavy) Trickel Sr. At age 2 he became the foster son of Joseph and Mary Elmer of Monroe.
He graduated from Monroe High School in 1935. He was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard at the start of WWII and went on to serve with the 32nd Red Arrow Infantry Brigade in the New Guinea campaign. On November 17, 1944 he married Ardith Rabe of Monroe. He earned his bachelor's degree, master's and then his doctorate in 1952 from University of Wisconsin at Madison. He was a member of Alpha Zeta fraternity.
He worked as a research chemist for Knudsen Dairy Corp in California. He was a member of VFW Cecil Jones post #2312 in Monroe. He is survived by his daughter Donna (Charles) Hodge of Eagle Point, OR, son Timothy Trickel of Vancouver, WA, grandson Patrick Trickel of San Francisco, CA, sister-in-law Geraldine (Dave) Miller of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 57 years Ardith, 2 sisters Jewelyn Connor and Vivian Sommers and a brother Gerald Trickel.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe.
