MONROE - The Green County Circuit Court on Tuesday entered into a deferred prosecution agreement with a Monroe man who pleaded no contest to child abuse.

Alfredo Pedro Meyer-Gonzalez, 20, faced up to six years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines for the class H felony.

The court dismissed one count of sexual assault of child under the age of 16, a class C felony, and second-degree reckless endangerment, a class G felony.

He originally faced up to 56 years in prison and up to $135,000 in fines.

Court records indicate he grabbed a 15-year-old girl by the neck and choked her May 10 at a Monroe residence.
