Lucile F. Elmer, age 97, formerly of Monticello, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Monroe. Lucile was born June 25, 1910 in Monticello, the daughter of Jacob H. and Emma (Jordi) Freitag. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1927 and married Wilbert D. Elmer on February 14, 1930.
Lucile and Wilbert owned a mink farm in rural Monticello for many years. Following Wilbert's death on March 26, 1973, Lucile continued operation of the mink farm until retiring in 1984.
She was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello and St. Omar Order of the Eastern Star #90 for many years. She enjoyed gardening and loved to bowl, keeping active in both activities until age 91.
Lucile has been a resident of Pleasant View since 2003.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne (Irving) Kubly of Monticello and Kathy Clewis of Monroe; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lorraine Elmer, a resident of Pleasant View.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lucile was preceded in death by six sisters, Edrie Duerst, Phyliss Pauli, Shirley Larson, Elizabeth Ace, Frances Kubly, and Patricia Oppliger; five brothers, Otto, Terrence, Hobart, Stanley, and John Freitag; and a brother and sister in infancy.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2008, at Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, with Reverend Lawrence Balleine officiating. Inurnment will be in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. A visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established in Lucile's name.
