Florence R. Bauman, age 90 of Monroe, died Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Woods Crossing in Brodhead where she has resided since January. Florence was born September 22, 1917 in Monroe, the daughter of Oscar and Rosa Lee (Raymer) Matzke. She attended Monroe High School and married Ben Bauman on May 19, 1945 at the Fairfield E.U.B. Church in Jefferson Township. Florence and Ben farmed on the Matzke home farm in Jefferson Township until Ben's death on July 16, 1976. Florence moved to Monroe in 1978.

She was a former member of Fairfield E.U.B. Church where she taught and was superintendent of the Sunday School, and served as the church pianist. She later attended Zion United Methodist Church in Juda and currently was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church.

Florence enjoyed raising her family, playing the piano, and needlework.

Survivors include two sons, Roger (Kathy) Krauss and Walter (Elizabeth) Bauman, all of Monroe; five grandchildren, Terry (Denise) Holcomb, Kevin Holcomb, David (Donetta) Holcomb, Joshua Krauss and Tonya Krauss; two step-grandchildren, Robert (Nancy) Heiligenthal and Brenda Hofer; and ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosalee Holcomb on December 20, 2002; a sister, Helen Jones; and a brother, Paul Matzke.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME in Monroe.

Interment will follow in Mount Vernon Cemetery in Juda. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. A memorial fund will be established in her name. To sign the online guest book or send a condolence go to www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
