Misdemeanors

• Timothy Joseph Schwarz, 32, Brodhead, pleaded no contest Jan. 22 to a Class A misdemeanor charge of retail theft and had his deferred prosecution agreement revoked on a misdemeanor conviction of disorderly conduct from an older case. Two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping were dismissed. He was sentenced to one year on probation. Schwarz was granted deferred prosecution in a domestic-abuse related case from 2016 last year but broke the conditions of that agreement by shoplifting a $14.49 bottle of Fireball-brand whiskey from the Piggly Wiggly in Brodhead in July, according to court records.

• Laci Rose Frauchiger, 27, Monroe, pleaded no contest Jan. 8 to a forfeiture charge of possessing drug paraphernalia, downgraded from a misdemeanor, and was fined $330.50. Burnt spoons, cotton swabs, hypodermic needles and other drug paraphernalia were found in her apartment in the 2200 block of 1st Street after Monroe firefighters and police responded to a report of smoke detectors going off and a large amount of smoke in the building on July 18, according to court records. Frauchiger told police she fell asleep while boiling brats on the stovetop, and when police saw drug paraphernalia "sitting in plain view" in the apartment, she explained that she and the man she was living with were heroin addicts. She said she had been clean for two years but recently relapsed. She told police she wanted help for her addiction but was not sure her insurance would cover it.
