Car hits trailer, woman injured

MONROE - A Monroe woman was hospitalized Tuesday evening after a car-versus-trailer accident in the W1400 block of Wisconsin 11, Town of Spring Grove.

According to a Green County Sheriff report, Jeanne M. Riley, 69, Monroe, was transported by Med Flight to the University of Wisconsin Hospital after the accident was reported at 8:14 p.m.

The accident was caused when Evan M. Marchant, 22, Brodhead, was driving a farm tractor while hauling a hay wagon loaded with corn stalks. Marchant was turning into a nearby driveway when a wheel on the hay wagon broke, causing the wagon to overturn in the roadway.

Shortly thereafter, Riley struck the overturned wagon with her vehicle.

Marchant was uninjured. Riley was transported by Monroe EMS to the Monroe Clinic before being taken to Madison.

Hospital representatives had no report on Riley's condition Wednesday afternoon.

In addition to Monroe EMS, Green County deputies and the Juda Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Riley's vehicle sustained severe damage and was towed from the scene. No citations were issued after the crash.
