MONROE — On July 1, at 2:30 p.m., Green County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the W5200 block of Round Grove Rd, Town of Monroe, for a report of a bucket truck striking a bridge.

An investigation found the driver, Todd J Richard, 31, of Lancaster, was driving when he misjudged the height of the bridge. As a result, the boom/bucket on his vehicle struck the bridge. Richard denied injury, reported wearing his seatbelt, and no airbag deployment. Richard’s vehicle sustained functional damage and was driven from the scene. 

The Badger State Trail bridge sustained severe damage resulting in bridge and road closures. 

The Wisconsin DNR, Monroe Township, and Green County Highway Department assisted with the investigation.
