Marklein: Proposed transmission lines
Letter To The Editor

To the Editor:

Recently, two massive transmission line projects have been proposed that will cut through the 17th Senate District. The MariBell 765kV Transmission Line and the BECI 765kV Transmission Line would cut through some of the most pristine land in Wisconsin.

I am strongly opposed to these proposed transmission lines.

As your State Senator, I will strongly express my opposition and magnify the voices of those I represent.

In addition to being an eyesore, they would divide farms, run directly through backyards, and negatively impact property values.

The projects would also increase already skyrocketing utility rates. The lines would cost hundreds of millions of dollars to build and this cost would ultimately be paid by you and me through our utility rates.

It is important to point out that the Public Service Commission (PSC), with commissioners appointed by the Governor, is the state agency solely responsible for reviewing and regulating transmission line projects. I would encourage you to ask the candidates for Governor what their position is on appointments to the PSC.

Strong public participation will be crucial throughout this process. Stay engaged, keep fighting, and don’t give up.
