MONROE — Monroe Woman’s Club wrapped up their Soles4Souls shoe drive on April 30 with a celebration at Koning’s Maple Lane Event Center.
Donations of new and gently used shoes were accepted at various locations and the club was thrilled with the overwhelming response. Fifty percent of the donated shoes will stay in the United States and be provided to families affected by a disaster or homelessness, and 50% of the shoes are sent to developing countries to help women launch and sustain their own small business selling shoes and clothing.
The club received 3,340 shoes (1,670 pairs), which far exceeded the goal of 1,000.
In a press release, the club thanked the community, its members, local churches, WEKZ Big Radio, Monroe Chamber of Commerce and our donation sites; Bruni-Miller Construction Inc., Green County YMCA, and Monroe Truck Equipment.
Monroe Woman’s Club was also recently awarded the ‘President’s Pick” of the month by Marian St. Clair, GFWC International President.
