Forever home finally found
Green County Humane Society celebrates as year-long wait comes to an end for Devona, an adorable canine

MONROE — It has been a long wait for Devona, the adorable dog who has been under the care of the Green County Humane Society for almost an entire year. But now, the wait is over, as she has finally found her forever home.

Devona, a mixed-breed dog, wasn’t thriving in the shelter environment, which was making it hard for potential families to see her true, sweet demeanor. Using funds specifically set aside for animal care and enrichment, the humane society sent her to training with Cortney Gilbertson of Memphis & Co. Dog Training, a home-based environment with clarity, structure, and consistency. For two weeks, Devona and Cortney established a trusting relationship full of understanding.

“Because of the trust we built I was able to work on her confidence with other dogs,” Gilbertson said. “The Devona I saw at my house compared to the dog at the humane society was a night and day difference. Instead of the hyper and hard-to-manage dog, she became a level-headed, calm, and obedient dog who was eager to please and learn.”

Rachel Horton, Operations Manager at the Green County Humane Society, is thrilled that Devona has found her forever home. She expressed her gratitude to Memphis & Co. for helping Devona become more adoptable.

“We’re so proud of Devona and the progress she’s made. It’s been a long journey, but we’re thrilled that she’s found her forever home. We’re grateful to our local partners at Memphis & Co. Dog Training and Fitness Nutrition Center (Devona’s sponsor) for helping us make Devona more adoptable,” Horton said.

Devona’s new family is excited to welcome her home and give her all the love and care she deserves.

“Everywhere we went, she was so excited to greet people. I knew when we found the right person, she was going to make a wonderful family pet. When GCHS set up her meeting with Trae she leaped into his arms and was glued to him,” said Gilbertson, owner of Memphis & Co.

Her new owner, Trae Seffrood, was visited by Cortney the day after her adoption where Devona was content, calm and not leaving Trae’s side, making it was clear she had found her forever home.

The Green County Humane Society encourages everyone to adopt a pet in need of a good home and give them the love and care they deserve.
