5-year-old chosen as pageant finalist

MONROE - Heidi Marty, age 5, of Monticello, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Wisconsin state pageant to be held Aug. 26 to 27 at Chula Vista Resort, Wisconsin Dells. The National American Miss pageants are held for girls age 4 to 18 and have five different age divisions. Heidi will be competing in the Princess age division.

The winner of the pageant will receive $1,000, the official crown and banner, trophy, roses, and her transportation and fees paid to compete in the national pageant in California.

35th class reunion slated for Aug. 6

MONROE - The Monroe High School Class of 1976 will hold its 35th class reunion on Aug. 6 at Turner Hall, Monroe.

The afternoon activities begin at 1 p.m. with tours of the Monroe Middle School and Monroe High School. The evening activities begin at 6 p.m. with a light buffet and cash bar, with no formal program or sit-down dinner.

The class has invited 40 former teachers from grade school through high school to attend the reunion. Funds are being raised to esta.blish an MHS Class of 1976 scholarship fund.

Skateboard event slated for Aug. 13

MONROE - A skateboard competition will be held at Honey Creek Skate Park Aug. 13, with registration beginning at noon.

Food and drink will be available for purchase at the event, with funds going to support the Optimist Club.

Waivers will be available the day of the event to sign, or they can be accessed online at ddoptimist.wordpress.com/sk8board-competition-series.

Openings for artists at event

GALENA - Because of a couple of cancellations and a configuration change, there is now room for a few more artists at the sixth annual Market House Square Art Festival, which will be held Saturday, Aug. 13 and Sunday, Aug. 14 at 121 N. Commerce St., downtown Galena.

The juried outdoor show of art and fine crafts will welcome more than 40 artists.
