Smith: Unchecked power does not concede
Letter To The Editor

From Kevin Smith

Janesville

To the Editor:

Here we go again, another election year. This one is different though, it is more shrouded in the public relations (PR) machine of the campaigns and our attention is drawn to the next shiny object they hold up for us to argue over and to fight amongst ourselves. The time for petty fights and meaningful debates on policy and posture lies in the future; the time to respect that democracy, our eroded democracy, is under assault is now. I hope to use my voice to convince you that we are merely a bridge to the future, passing the ball along to the next and future generations to continue the tradition of American democracy and self rule. This is bigger than all of us, it is more existential now than it was 4 years ago. Unchecked power does not concede, it corrupts and carnage ensues. We have no king and need no king: this is our moment to end his reign of carnage and terror. Until next time.
