Letter To The Editor

From George Vernon

Monroe

To the Editor:

Our family moved to Monroe the summer before our daughter started high school. The quality and the welcoming atmosphere of the school were major factors in the decision to make that move.  In part because of that experience it is especially sad to see segments of the community so deeply distrustful of the school board, and so motivated to prevent the replacement of a high school whose very foundation is crumbling into the sod.

The fate of this vitally important issue will be determined by vote at a school board meeting at the high school on July 17.  The Board’s choice is $2.0 million less expensive than the alternative, far less disruptive of the neighborhood of the current high school, and opens the possibility of substantial expansion of the residential development already underway in that neighborhood.

Please make plans now to show up on July 17 and vote to approve the Board’s recommendation for a new high school on a new site. And bring along a few friends.
