A huge bouquet of Indiana Camron Roses to Alvin Tschudy >during this sesquicentennial year of Monroe, the "city" to which two generations of Camron grandparents retired. Hugh Camron mined lead in the early 30s. When the land office opened at Mineral Point in 1836, he rode there to register his 120-acre claim. In 1837 he married Margaret Hughes. Hugh had built a story-and-a-half house with an open walnut staircase atop his first abode, a soddy which became the root cellar, and furnished it with handcrafted walnut furniture. His youngest son, Frankly, married after returning from the Civil War, added acres, outbuildings and a two-story home having a full attic with stained glass windows. The attic housed the hired girl, dried the winter laundry, and was the repository of family history. During the 20th century, three more generations of Camrons - William, Darryl and Kay - continued the operation. And that large Victorian house was restored by Mr. Tschudy, the father of the sixth generation. With fond memories of Mom, Gretta Signer, the first Camron born in this house, who died at age 99 in September, we express our sincere gratitude for preserving this house of my many childhood learning ventures. - Ulonda Dietmeier, Monroe>

A barb to Dave Searles >for not knowing all the facts before he barbs the Brodhead United Methodist Church. This house was advertised for sale to be moved and no one stepped up to do it. If Dave felt that strongly, maybe he should have been the one to move it and save it. - Joella>

The Whiskey Annie Band would like to give many blossoms to Leisure Lanes, Sir Buks, Flanagans, Ludlows and the Horseshoe Saloon >for helping us in our food drive. The drive was a complete success and would not have been possible without their cooperation. Also blossoms to all that brought food and supported us. >Thank you ! - Whiskey Annie Band>

Well, if the Whiskey Annie Band is going to blossom all the places that let them play and collect food for local food pantries, then a blossom to the Whiskey Annie Band >for organizing such an awesome event. I had the chance to listen to them for a little while Thursday night and they were awesome! It was really nice of you guys to put the less fortunate first ... we could all learn a little something from you. Thank you! - Jeff Ditzenberger, Monticello>

A blossom to the Liberty Baptist Church >for being such good stewards. By using their sign to proclaim God's Word, it is certain that an untold number of souls are benefited. "For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper [in the thing] whereto I sent it." (Isa. 55:10,11) - Dave Schumacher>

I want to give President-elect Obama a blossom >because he wants to solve the economic crisis. First, he's going to have to look at why the income of the Forbes 400 is going up every year and those of us in the middle class are going down. He keeps talking about entitlements and going over the budget line by line. What he should do is go over line by line the books of the investment banks, Citibank and others that want government handouts to get rid of all their toxic derivatives. He shouldn't expect Congress to keep borrowing from Social Security when there are hedge fund dealers hiding their money offshore in Bermuda, the Cayman Islands and Switzerland. If that doesn't bring enough money in, he should put on a surtax like President Lyndon Johnson did during the Vietnam War. Also, Rep. Dave Obey suggested a surtax recently. We certainly need the income. - La Vern Isely, Monroe>
