Two MWC wrestlers place at nationals

MONROE — The Monroe Wrestling Club sent five athletes to the USA Folkstyle Nationals at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The event brought over 2,000 wrestlers from all over the country.

 Eli Schmitz, Samuel Queen and Dixon Starr started out the weekend on Friday, March 31. Eli Schmitz placed second in the 8U 56lb bracket, going 4-1 on the day. Queen (10U 63lbs, 0-2) and Starr (10U 59lbs, 2-2) did not place but had a good day on the mat. On Saturday, April 1, Blaine Fletcher and Caleb Schmitz battled on the mat. Blaine advanced to Sunday, April 2 for the medal round and placed sixth in the 12U 78lb bracket. Blaine went 3-3. Caleb (14U 71lbs, 0-2) wrestled well but did not place.

The Monroe Wrestling Club will wrap up its season with an banquet on Sunday, April 16 at the MWC practice facility.
