Whitewater boys edge Brodhead

BRODHEAD - The Brodhead boys basketball team traded big quarters in the second half against Whitewater but came out on the losing end, 58-53.

After a relatively low-scoring first half that saw the Cardinals head into the locker room up 19-17, Whitewater came out big in the third quarter, surpassing their first half scoring total while outscoring the Cardinals 24-9.

In the fourth quarter, Brodhead returned the favor, putting up 25 points. However, the Whippets were able to match some of the Cardinals' scoring with 17 points, sealing the victory.

Brodhead senior Danny Lewis, led all scorers with 19 points. Other contributors for the Cardinals included sophomores Josiah DeLorme (15 points) and Griffin Day (13 points).

The Whippets spread out their scoring, with ten players getting in on the action. Rigo Navejas led all Whitewater scorers, with 14.

Brodhead will play at Clinton on Friday.



Dodgeville 87, Darlington 50

DARLINGTON - The Darlington boys basketball team struggled to stop Dodgeville on Tuesday.

The Redbirds held an 11-point lead at halftime, before they broke the game open in the second half. The Dodgers scored 51 after halftime, while Darlington scored just 25.

Griffin Heinberg led the Redbirds with 16 points. Cole McDonald also scored in double figures for Darlington, putting up 14.

Darlington coach Mike Hopkins said his team needs to play better if they are going to get some wins.

"We need to score more than 50, and we need to stick to our defensive goals," he said.

The Redbirds (5-9, 3-4 in the SWAL) have another tough task ahead of them, as they travel to Cuba City, the second-ranked team in Division 4, on Friday.
