Solid play in field carries Argyle to win

BELLEVILLE - A strong effort in the field led the Argyle softball team to a 9-4 victory over Belleville on Thursday.

The Orioles improved to 4-3 with the nonconference win.

"I felt we played a lot better today," Argyle coach Heidi Ganshert said. "They had 14 hits, but we just did our job in the field today."

The Orioles did not commit any errors and had 13 hits. They scored five runs in the top of the first inning.

Argyle sophomore Jaydn Saalsaa had a two-run double. Junior Morgan Nelson had an RBI double, and sophomore Erin Bruehlman also had an RBI.

Junior Brianne Connors was 3-for-4 with a triple, and sophomore Kirsten Ostby and senior Sam Mick each were 2-for-4 for Argyle.

Junior Taylor Mathys threw a complete game with four strikeouts and three walks. All four runs were earned.

Juda-Albany 10,

Benton-Shullsburg 0 (5)

JUDA - Juda-Albany hit three home runs en route to cruising to a shutout of Benton-Shullsburg.

Juda-Albany senior Sayde McDermott went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI. McDermott set the tone with a two-run home run to left field in the first inning.

The other home runs came from junior Nicki Becker and senior Riley Adkins. Becker blasted a two-run homer in the Panthers' six-run second, and Adkins hit a solo home run in the third.

"I'm happy for them," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said. "They have been working really hard in practice. To see them come out and hit the home runs is really rewarding."

Adkins went 2-for-2 and helped the Panthers improve to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the Six Rivers East.

Becker tossed a one-hit shutout in five innings. She struck out seven and walked just one.



Black Hawk 10, Cassville 0 (5)

SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk senior Sam Lovelace went 2-for-3 with three RBI, and senior Jordyn Delzer hit a home run to power the Warriors (5-6, 3-2 Six Rivers East) to the win.

"It was a true team effort," Black Hawk coach Jim Baumgartner said. "We played a great game against a good team. Every girl found a way to get on base for us tonight. I really hope this kind of win can make the girls believe in themselves."

Delzer's solo home run in the second was the first of her career.

"It was on her bucket list," Baumgartner said.

Freshman Hannah Butler went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Butler also pitched a two-hit shutout to get the win. She struck out five and walked two.



Jefferson 14, Brodhead 9

JEFFERSON - Brodhead juniors Azzy Steiner and Caitlin Novy each drove in two runs, but the Cardinals committed three errors and lost to Jefferson.

Jefferson pounded out 14 hits. Jefferson scored three runs in the third inning and four in the fourth to take a 10-2 lead.

Steiner pitched four innings and gave up 10 runs.



Darlington 9, Riverdale 7

DARLINGTON - Senior Reagan Roelli went 2-for-3 to help lead the Redbirds to a Southwest Wisconsin Activities League win over Riverdale.

The Redbirds rallied from a 2-1 deficit. Darlington scored five runs in the fifth inning to cruise to the win. Darlington senior Tayah Paulson went 2-for-3 and senior Callie Norton was 2-for-4.

Paulson pitched a complete game and gave up seven runs on 12 hits. She struck out four and didn't issue a walk.
