BARNEVELD - Kelly Mueller mowed her team's way to some breathing space atop the Six Rivers East.
The Barneveld sophomore ace struck out 13 batters and scattered five hits against visiting Black Hawk in a 2-1 decision Monday evening.
The only Black Hawk batter to draw a bead on Mueller's pitches was senior Aryn Wellnitz, who went 2-for-3.
Warriors senior Janel Rupnow took the hard-luck loss, allowing six hits in as many innings.

Sierra Granberg is looking more and more like the stingy doorperson coach Heidi Ganshert's been looking for.
The junior pitcher only handed out five free passes, less than half of the team's average per seven innings this season, and earned a complete-game victory over Juda at home Monday.
"We've gotta keep pitching that way or we're not going to be able to win," the Orioles coach Ganshert said.
Four Orioles (3-9, 3-5 Six Rivers East) had multiple hits with senior Amber Thomas and Kelli Fischer both collected three. Tina Dammen joined her classmates as the trio opened a four-run second inning with three straight singles.
Argyle travels to Black Hawk today while Juda hosts red-hot Albany.
