SOFTBALL: Monroe pounds Lena

MONROE - Monroe Optimists No. 1 pounded out 16 hits en route to an 8-4 win over Lena in Monroe Fastpitch League action this week.

Maggie Schuttler collected four hits, including a double and triple to lead the offense.

Paisley Bennett, Brandi Trewartha, Caitlyn Ambrose, Kayla Rackow and Mandi Wilde each collected two hits.

Meghan Roberts scattered seven hits and struck out six in picking up the win.

In other Red League games, Monroe Optimists No. 2 could only muster four hits in a 7-3 loss to Stillman Valley. Orangeville claimed the Red League title with a 6-3 win over Lena.

In White League action, Monroe Optimists No. 3 earned a share of the title with a 6-1 win over Brodhead. Kaylee Craigo collected two hits to lead the team on offense and Kristin McArdle struck out 13 in picking up the victory for Monroe.

Monroe No. 4 also earned a share of the league title with an 11-3 win over Argyle. Erica Hegi picked up the win for Monroe, and Kasey Gutzer had two hits and three RBI to lead the offense. In the other White League game, Juda hung on to defeat Pecatonica, 11-10.
